My Life in France

“This is my invariable advice to people: Learn how to cook- try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless, and above all have fun!”
- Julia Child, My Life in France

My Life in France by Julia Child

Not because of the movie Julie and Julia (though it first introduced me to Julia Child) but because of my recent love of cooking and the kitchen and creating beautiful food, I picked up the book My Life in France by Julia Child.  What a beautiful read!  I found Julia to be such a delightful person - I loved following her thoughts and opinions, reading about what she found beautiful and what she found atrocious, and fantasizing about living in another country and establishing a unique but rich and full life!

These kinds of books are some of my favorite; I love simply exploring a person's daily life, finding out about what makes them tick, what makes them smile and how they deal with struggle.  I'm not sure I could say there was any single struggle in this book, though there was a lot of time and energy focused on publishing the cookbook, and sometimes I think that's the best kind of book of all.

PS The picture on the cover (which I was very curious about) is the picture from one year's Valentine card, which Julia and Paul always sent out.  :)
